Quantum Cryptography: Coin Flipping and Key Distribution

The mathematics of qubits and conjugate bases, applied to BB84 key distribution and to flipping a fair coin with someone you do not trust.

2025 · MATH 5248 Cryptology and Number Theory, University of Minnesota · advised by Gennady Lyubeznik · created with Wyatt Furois, Dan Hawker and Blake Briol

A survey paper and talk covering the quantum information theory needed to reach two protocols. The first is BB84 key distribution, including why eavesdropping is detectable. The second is quantum coin flipping as a commitment primitive between mutually distrusting parties.
